The Great Sand Dunes
The Great Sand Dunes were formed from a huge lake that was between the 2 mountain ranges. It dried up and all the sand at the bottom of the lake was blown in one direction. That made the sand mass up in one place and form the Great Sand Dunes. Over time, these Dunes started to support life, such as kangaroo rat, beavers, pronghorn, mountain lions and tiger salamanders. The general area around the dunes supports mule deer, peregrine falcon, coyotes, and elk. The above 2 pictues are mule deer we spotted on our way out of the national park. The male have horns and the female do not.
